„In this world nothing’s impossible, you only have to find the right means to do it.“
-- Hermann Oberth (1894-1989)
Here’s a list of the equipment we use.
* 35mm camera : Gives the best results and is in most cases dust-orb-free…
* digital camera : For immediate results.
* Camcorders with night-vision mode + new tapes : Covers video and audio at the same time. Night-vision because we investigate in the dark as apparitions seem to be most active in dark environments.
* Digital and analog tape recorders + external static free microphones + new tapes : new tapes to eliminate magnetic residue from the previous recording. Analog recorders, because they use a different way of recording sound. Digital recorders do not record as much data during more silent periods, hence it can not be amplified (you can’t amplify data that isn’t there). Analog recorders do not have this problem. Digital recorders should ideally be used with a white-noise generator, thus not allowing periods of silence.
* AC EMF detector (Multidetektor II; range of 5 – 400.000 Hz): One theory is that ghosts consist of energy. High readings on our EMF-meter help us to locate them (electromagnetic fields are measured in mili-Gauss). Before doing an investigation we always locate the natural sources of electromagnetic fields like fuse boxes, clock-radios and the like.
* IR thermometer : Ghosts are said to draw energy when they try to manifest. This is said to result in cold spots. We use an infrared thermometer which gives us the room temperature as well as readings from certain objects, which can easily be focused with a laser beam.
* Flashlights : To avoid accidents in pitch black areas…
* Notebook and pencils : Our team members always write down time and location during an investigation as well as the equipment they are using. This allows us to eliminate natural sources of recorded phenomena when reviewing the evidence.
* Walkie-talkies : Necessary when investigating in several groups.
* Extra batteries : As ghosts draw energy from their surroundings it happens quite often that batteries are drained, so it’s always useful to carry along some reserves.
* Mobile phone : For emergencies.
* Watch: Together with notebook and pencils a useful utensil to keep an exact record of the investigation.
* GPS Navigation : when we're in the field, to check where exactely we are. So we can retrace a location later on, and see if roads or other environmental items are in the vicinity.
* Faraday cage : It's built of an electrical conducting metal. Things you put inside are shielded of electric fields or electric waves. Therefore, if you put your recorder inside the Faraday cage it's free of any interference through radio waves.
* Thermo-Hygrometer : This device measures room temperature and humidity. We usually use this to debunk certain phenomena like mist (most of the time it's fog) or doors opening on their own (wood has a tendency to soak up water (high humidity in the air), thus it gets out of shape and wooden doors then don't close properly any more) ...
